However, you can still get around Bangkok easily using alternatives like Grab, which functions similarly to Uber. With the Grab app, you can book rides with options including cars (GrabCar), taxis (GrabTaxi), or even motorbikes (GrabBike) to navigate the city’s notorious traffic. It’s widely used, available 24/7, and offers upfront pricing with payment by cash or card—perfect for avoiding haggling with drivers. Grab operates throughout Bangkok, including from Suvarnabhumi (BKK) and Don Mueang (DMK) airports, though there might be slight airport surcharges.
Other options include Bolt, which is often cheaper but has fewer drivers, and InDrive, where you can negotiate fares, though it’s less reliable in terms of availability. For a more traditional experience, Bangkok’s metered taxis are plentiful (insist on the meter to avoid overcharging), and tuk-tuks offer a fun, albeit pricier, ride for short distances. Public transport like the BTS Skytrain and MRT subway is efficient for avoiding traffic, especially during rush hours, while the Chao Phraya River boats provide a scenic way to travel between key spots.
If you were hoping to use Uber specifically, you’re out of luck in Bangkok—but Grab is the closest equivalent and just as convenient.
